Today we had another alumni coming in to teach! Tyler Gordon took time out of his busy schedule to come in and teach the Maine Game Club members Adobe Illustrator.
He gave them a crash course in Illustrator, first by teaching them how to make a basic, cartoony space man and then they were off to create vector based art on their own. None of the members were very comfortable with the software when Tyler started his 2 hour instruction, but they were all able to successfully create their own digital art by the end.
In the beginning he got them used to typical vector based tools like the shape tool, the pen tool, and different selection tools. Then he went over more general concepts layer organization, gradients, and opacity among other things.
After that, they all created custom rocket ships to fit the art style of the spaceman that will be used in the game being made for the Maine Discovery Museum.
